The CME Center project has won an AIA Chicago Design Excellence Award (Citation of Merit)! This award recognizes design excellence in interior architecture. The project completely transforms a 40 year-old building’s ground plane experience creating a new urban promenade around the building with open living room for all, utilizing 24’ tall undulating glass envelope and white petals of solid surface unifying the inside and out.

As facade work enters its final leg, glass installation is now underway for the University of Illinois’ new medical building in the Illinois Medical District. Known as the UI Health Outpatient Surgery Center & Specialty Clinics, the six-story facility will offer more than 200,000 square feet of programming.

The Laurel Rittenhouse Square, a new ultra-luxury residential tower, has topped out in Philadelphia. Upon completion, the 599-foot-tall building will be the tallest residential tower in the city.
Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) designed the 583,000-sf, 48 story tower, which will feature 65 condominium units, 184 luxury apartment units, and 44,000-sf of ground-floor retail. The tower is crowned with a glass-encased structural frame that will be illuminated in the evening.

Curtain wall installation is nearing completion on The Willoughby, a 34-story mixed-use building at 196 Willoughby Street on Long Island University‘s Downtown Brooklyn campus. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by RXR Realty, the 435-foot-tall structure will yield residential units, academic and office spaces, an adjacent athletic field, and parking for 564 vehicles. The Willoughby is bound by Willoughby Street to the north, Ashland Place to the east, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and Flatbush Avenue Extension to the west. Hunter Roberts Construction Group is the general contractor for the LIU expansion project.

All is set for the groundbreaking ceremony of The Reed Tower, which is the second residential tower by Lendlease Corp., in South Loop. The construction will take place at 234 W.Polk Street, and preparations involving drilling tunnels underground have already commenced on the site. This second tower will join the first already existing  tower called The Cooper, which is a 29-story apartment tower housing 452 rental units.

Lendlease (ASX: LLC), a leading global real estate group, along with co-developer Magellan Development Group, announced that the first residents have moved into Cascade, a 37-story, 503-unit luxury apartment tower at 455 E. Waterside Drive in Chicago’s Lakeshore East neighborhood. The opening coincides with the completion of Cascade Park, the adjacent 0.8-acre, publicly accessible green space that connects the property to Lake Michigan and the Lakefront Trail.

Overlooking Rittenhouse Square, the long-anticipated luxury high-rise “The Laurel” is now underway. Last week, a sneak preview of the 28th floor views was held for realtors and potential buyers. Developed by Southern Land Company, the $300 million tower at 1911 Walnut Street will have retail and lobbies to the first two stories. Through the 25th floor, there will be market-rate rental units, followed by a floor dedicated to amenities on the 26th—including a pool, fitness area, lounge, deck, sauna, and dog spa. The remaining stories will hold luxury, multi-million-dollar condos.

Until recently, the lobby of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was labyrinthine and dark. In May 2020, Kruek Sexton, working with building envelope experts at the Roschmann Group and engineers Thronton Tomasetti, outfitted the atrium with a dramatic new facade – a 7.3 metre – hight wall of curvilinear heat-strengthened glass punctuated with egress doors. Supported by vertical fins, the sinuous skin is sufficiently durable to sustain inclement weather and Chicago´s epic winds. Coupled with a new wall and ceiling system that integrates a brilliant lighting scheme, the project brings fresh life to a once-gloomy lobby and gives something back to the streetscape, too.

Two new residential towers will soon grace the Nashville skyline. Alcove at 900 Church, a 34-story, 356-unit building, and Prime at 801 Church, a 38-story, 350-unit building, will be built concurrently on nearly an acre of land in downtown Nashville directly across from the mixed-use development Nashville Yards.

Alcove at 900 Church will include a glass facade and feature a stacked cube aesthetic. It will rise 416 feet. Prime at 801 Church has a smaller footprint than Alcove but retains the stacked glass cube style. Alcove will not feature any parking while Prime will include a 511-space parking garage. Prime will also include two retail spaces totaling approximately 2,600-sf. Spread across the two towers will be balconies, terraces, and a glass-bottomed cantilevered swimming pool.

A groundbreaking looms for a downtown mixed-use tower planned for Church Street following Nashville-based Giarratana LLC having paid $12 million for the site.

To be called Prime (previously known as 801 Church), the 38-story tower from Nashville-based Giarratana LLC will have 350 residential units and two retail spaces (one each at Parks and Church and at Ninth and Church, respectively), according to a document. The address is 801 Church St., at the intersection with Rosa Parks Boulevard and with Nashville Yards unfolding nearby.
